It gives me great pleasure to share with you the news that Victor Rios, Professor of Sociology, has accepted my invitation to become Associate Dean of Social Sciences, effective July 1, 2018. Victor brings to the job many years of service on the Sociology faculty, and rich experience of research with marginalized youth in inner city areas of California and beyond. In addition to his exceptional scholarship, Victor has played an important role as a public intellectual, leading programmatic work and engaging multiple publics on the topics of his research. This positions him extraordinarily well as Associate Dean, since scholarship with impact on society is a central priority of our Division. 

 

Together with Professor Leila Rupp, who assumed the role of Associate Dean earlier this summer, and Tiffany Ibarra, our newly appointed Assistant to the Deans, our team is now complete. Leila comes back to the Dean's office with a wealth of experience, expertise and commitment, which you all know very well first hand. Please join me in welcoming both Leila and Victor to the Dean's Office. 

 

We are very excited about plans for the Division for 2018-19.
