UCSB Moot Court Advances to Preliminary Round of the National Tournament!

Congratulations to UCSB Moot Court for their stellar job in representing UCSB by advancing to the final round of the competition season and qualifying to compete on a national stage!

Moot Court at UCSB is an 18 student organization with a total of 9 2-person teams.

At the Western Regional at Fresno State University, 3 of the teams placed within the top 8: Ella Stitzlein (History) and Evelyn Thurman (English) placed 1st, Olivia Shen (Political Science) and Mary Sarukhanyan placed 3rd, and Michael Kwok (Actuarial Science) and Urmi Mandal (Economics and Accounting) placed 7th. This is the second consecutive year that a UCSB team has won the Western Regional! All 3 teams have qualified for the Preliminary Round of the National Tournament (PRONT).

At the City of Angels Regional at USC, Connor Vaughan (Political Science) and Delaney Moss (Religious Studies) placed 3rd, also qualifying for the Preliminary Round of the National Tournament.

Marcus Ortiz (Political Science) and Jeremy Zide (Economics) competed at the Golden Gate Regional at San Francisco State University where they placed 2nd out of 32 teams, thereby qualifying for the Preliminary Round of the National Tournament.

As a resullt of their success at regionals, these 5 teams have qualified for the next round of the competition and will continue to represent UCSB, this time on a national stage.

Additionally, 5 members of UCSB Moot Court were awarded within the top 10 individual orators of their regional, with Ella Stitzlein placing 2nd and Evelyn Thurman placing 5th at Fresno State, Delaney Moss placing 3rd at USC, and Salome Achury placing 4th and Marcus Ortiz placing 9th at SFSU. 

The 5 qualifying UCSB Moot Court teams will compete in the Preliminary Round of the National Tournament at the University of New Mexico School of Law in January. The top 8 teams at this competition will advance to the Final Round of the National Tournament. Best of luck!
