Blaise R. Simqu

Dean's Cabinet Member

Bio

Blaise Simqu is the Chief Executive Officer of Sage, a leading global publisher of books, journals, and library resources spanning a wide range of subject areas. Independent since its founding in 1965, Sage is driven by the belief that research and education have the power to shape society. Blaise has been part of Sage for 30 years. Before he was appointed in 2004 as CEO – which today includes oversight of Corwin, AM, and Technology from Sage among other companies and imprints – he held positions ranging from editor to vice president to executive vice president.

Under Blaise's leadership, the company’s management team has moved the company from primarily a print publisher to a creator of digital content in scientific research, academic course material, and a growing range of technologies to enable teaching and research. Most recently, he oversaw Sage’s transition from a privately held company to one run by a charitable trust, ensuring the company will forever remain independent and mission-driven.

Blaise has also worked with the Hampton-Brown Company, Jossey-Bass Publishers, and the Kinko’s Corporation. He serves on the board of directors for the Association of American Publishers in Washington, DC, is an emeritus member of the board of trustees for The Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, California, and is a member of the University of California-Santa Barbara Dean’s Cabinet.

He has a B.A. from Loyola Marymount University and an M.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles.
